Pure acrylic adhesive is a flammable material; its coating film tends to continue burning when exposed to fire, and the adhesive layer is thin and its bonding performance is sensitive. Adding ordinary plastic flame retardants directly often causes problems such as settling and caking, precipitation and whitening, reduced initial tack, and impaired peel strength. Therefore, flame retardants specially adapted to solvent-based systems and dedicated to acrylic glue are needed. The core of selection is to achieve the fire rating while changing the original glue formulation as little as possible, preserving initial tack, peel strength, film-forming transparency, and coating leveling.

At present, solvent-based acrylic adhesives mainly adopt the halogen-free flame-retardant route of phosphorus-nitrogen compounding. Unlike water-based adhesives, solvent systems have higher requirements for the dispersion stability of flame retardants. The phosphorus component, when heated, catalyzes dehydration and carbonization of the adhesive layer, forming a dense char layer on the surface that blocks heat and oxygen; the nitrogen component releases inert gas to dilute the combustible concentration and expand the char layer. The two work synergistically to achieve self-extinguishing after removal from flame. In actual selection, focus on three things: first, whether the powder can remain suspended in common solvents such as ethyl acetate for a long time without layering or settling, which directly relates to whether high-speed coating produces particles, streaks, and surface defects; second, whether the particle size is fine enough and has been surface-coated and modified, otherwise it easily precipitates and blooms in the adhesive film, affecting the bonding surface and appearance; third, whether the addition amount is restrained. Excessive filling raises the cohesive energy of the adhesive layer, causing decreased initial tack and a hard, brittle film. For tape products requiring transparency or light color, specifications with good whiteness that do not affect light transmission should be preferred. When necessary, they can be compounded with phosphorus-containing additives for synergy, reducing the total addition amount while improving the flame-retardant rating.

Formulations for different uses also have different priorities. For ordinary packaging and decorative bonding, cost-effectiveness is primary, and a general phosphorus-nitrogen compound system can balance cost and flame retardancy; insulating tape and electronic film products have high requirements for flame-retardant rating and electrical properties, so under the guidance of professional manufacturers, the phosphorus-nitrogen ratio can be increased and synergistic compounding can be performed to balance V-grade flame retardancy and holding power; for products involving export or complete vehicles and electrical appliance supporting, it must be confirmed that the flame retardant has complete RoHS and REACH compliance test reports to avoid environmental barriers. Because each adhesive differs in resin grade, solid content, solvent ratio, and coating thickness, there is no universal addition ratio. It is recommended to first conduct small-scale tests to measure peel strength, initial tack, and appearance, and then scale up to mass production.

Dongguan Hongtaiji Flame Retardant Materials has long supplied a halogen-free flame retardant series and can provide dedicated phosphorus-nitrogen compound solutions for solvent-based acrylic adhesive systems. The powder undergoes surface modification treatment, has good dispersion in solvents, and is not prone to precipitation. It comes with free samples and one-on-one formulation debugging. All products comply with the RoHS Directive and REACH regulatory standards, and are suitable for various solvent-based acrylic application scenarios such as insulating tape, PET laminated film, and industrial bonding.

[51,52,50

post-1665","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-company-news","category-52","category-industrial-news
["GET
