However, the alkane structure of PP gives it a limiting oxygen index (LOI) of only 17% to 18%, making it highly flammable and prone to melt dripping in fire, which severely restricts its application in scenarios with high safety requirements. Therefore, flame-retardant treatment of PP is essential.

There are three main types of PP flame-retardant solutions. Halogenated flame retardants (such as decabromodiphenyl ethane) are efficient but face increasing pressure from environmental regulations. Inorganic flame retardants (magnesium hydroxide, aluminum hydroxide) are environmentally friendly but usually require high loadings (>60%) to be effective, seriously affecting the mechanical properties of the material. Intumescentflame retardant(IFR) is currently the mainstream choice. IFR consists of an acid source, a carbon source, and a gas source. When heated, these three components act synergistically to form a dense honeycomb intumescent char layer on the material surface, effectively insulating heat and oxygen, while releasing inert gases to dilute combustible concentrations. It combines the advantages of high flame-retardant efficiency, low smoke, and no melt dripping.

Dongguan Hongtaiji Flame Retardant Materials Co., Ltd. has been dedicated to environmentally friendly flame retardants for over 20 years and has developed a comprehensive flame-retardant product system for PP materials. The company prepared intumescent flame-retardant polypropylene composites via melt blending. Research shows that the addition of zirconium phosphate (OZrP) promotes the formation of a graphitized char layer during PP combustion, significantly enhancing fire resistance. With a moderate addition level, Hongtaiji's phosphorus-nitrogen halogen-free intumescent flame retardants enable PP to achieve the UL94 V-0 flame-retardant rating. In addition, the company's melamine cyanurate (MCA) and melamine pyrophosphate (MPP) are also suitable for PP flame-retardant modification.

For selection, homopolymer PP should be paired with homopolymer flame retardants, while copolymer PP and glass-fiber-reinforced PP are recommended to use copolymer flame retardants. All Hongtaiji products comply with the ROHS directive and REACH regulation standards, providing customers with efficient and environmentally friendly PP flame-retardant solutions.

[50

post-1493","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-industrial-news
["GET
