Its flame-retardant mechanism reflects the dual action of condensed phase and gas phase: upon heating, red phosphorus promotes dehydration and charring of the polymer, forming a dense char layer that isolates oxygen and heat; simultaneously, its pyrolysis product PO· radicals can capture active free radicals in the flame, interrupting the combustion chain reaction. However, ordinary red phosphorus is prone to moisture absorption and oxidation, releasing highly toxic phosphine (PH₃) gas, and has poor compatibility with resins and deep color, which once limited its application scope.

Encapsulation technology effectively solves the above pain points.Microencapsulated Red PhosphorusBy forming a dense protective film on the surface of red phosphorus, stability and safety are greatly improved, significantly reducing its hygroscopicity and effectively inhibiting phosphine release. Research shows that when the dosage of encapsulated red phosphorus reaches 25%, ABS composites can meet the UL94 V-0 flame-retardant requirement. Encapsulated red phosphorus has significant advantages in electronic and electrical applications due to its high comparative tracking index (CTI).

Red phosphorus masterbatch is a pelletized product made by compounding red phosphorus with inorganic flame retardants and processing with a base resin as the carrier. Compared with encapsulated red phosphorus, red phosphorus masterbatch further solves the problems of dust pollution and processing dispersion, and also has the advantages of high flame-retardant efficiency, good thermal stability, and little impact on the physical properties of products. In a nylon system reinforced with 30% glass fiber, adding 15%-17% red phosphorus masterbatch can reach UL94 V-0 grade. Its limitation is that it has a single color and is usually only suitable for dark or black products.

At present, red phosphorus flame retardants and red phosphorus masterbatches have been widely used in thermoplastic resins such as PA, PP, PE, PBT, EVA, as well as thermosetting resins such as epoxy resin and unsaturated polyester, and rubber products. They play an irreplaceable role in glass fiber reinforced nylon, wire and cable, electronic and electrical appliances, and other fields. With the continuous advancement of encapsulation and masterbatch technology, red phosphorus flame-retardant systems are developing towards higher safety and better compatibility.

[50

post-1477","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-industrial-news
["GET
